Primordial Seek New Drummer

On June 5, 2010 Primordial played a rather tragic show in Athens, Greece that ultimately resulted in the departure of their drummer Simon O’Laoghaire from the band. According to accounts, the show was little more than a straight up a disaster and in an apology, Primordial vocalist Alan Averill describes it has “Primordial’s worst show in 20 years.”  This is due mostly in part of O’Laoghaire’s extreme intoxication during the band’s performance. The band has now officially announced they are looking for a replacement but in another statement claim they don't know what will happen with Simon, but have encouraged him to take a break and seek help for a problem that has been plaguing him and the band for many, many years.

The so-called rock ‘n roll lifestyle can chew people up and shit them out of its backside if you lose control, and while we have sympathy for all the fans that were short changed in Greece that fateful day, we also wish Simon a full recovery and speedy return to normal life.

After A Long Day... || Primordial - Gallows Hymn

Cover (front)
After a long day of lusting after festivals I cannot see and new music from a long ago (but not forgotten) band of the week, I'm in the mood for some Primordial.  Probably their most popular album to date, ‘To The Nameless Dead’ boasts some pretty amazing folky black metal tracks, the most well known being ‘Empire Falls’.  I am partial to the track that follows it, ‘Gallows Hymn’, so that is what we’ll leave you with this rainy (at least where we are) Tuesday evening.

Primordial- "All Empires Fall" Trailer

I wish we had a countdown timer here at Metal Call-Out. If we did, it surely would be counting down the seconds to the release of Primordial’s live DVD. Entitled ‘All Empires Fall’, the DVD will feature 2-disks of the band playing live in Dublin, Germany, Norway and Belgium. In addition to the live tracks there will be about sixty minutes of interviews and a documentary.

Vocalist Alan Averill has commented on the raw nature of the DVD saying, “We are proud that 'All Empires Fall' shows us as we are and as a Primordial show always is. Blood and thunder and no quarter given from start to finish." You can see the trailer for the DVD above, available through Metal Blade Records on March 16.
