Have You Heard Aurora Borealis?

Welcome to the first edition of Have You Heard (formerly Shiny Pennies) of the year 2011. The polls are still coming in but it seems y’all want more of the obscure, underrated and unknown bands, so we deliver.

This week, meet the thunderous Aurora Borealis. Surely one of the great underrated metal bands in the US, Aurora Borealis forges a special melding of the black, thrash, and death metals into a savage beast of an aural weapon made for those that like it fast and dirty...

Formed in 1994 in Waldorf, Maryland, Aurora Borealis consists now of only three members, Ron Vento (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Jason Ian Vaugh Eckert (bass), and Mark Green (drums), but have in the past been home to members from 1349, Nile, and Divine Heresy to name a few. In 1998 the band released their first full-length offering, Praise the Archaic Lights Embrace, on Nightsky Productions. Since that first full-length AB have released three more albums and a number of splits and demos that have for the most part been wildly and shamefully ignored.

This year Aurora Borealis will release their fifth album, Timeline: The Beginning and End of Everything, and to promote have released the following 11-minute album trailer that should give you a pretty good idea of just what’s in store and what you’ve been missing out on:

Timeline: The Beginning and End of Everything is slated for release in Mid-February. The band has opted to forgo a traditional release and, as you can see from the video, is simply accepting checks and money orders for physical copies of the CD. Additionally, this album will be available for FREE download near the end of February, which we’ll remind you of again when the time is nearer.  In the interim you can visit Aurora Borealis’ official site or Facebook page to hear more.
