New Video || Cradle Of Filth- Forgive Me Father (I Have Sinned)

Share

Cradle of Filth released the above video today for the track Forgive Me Father (I Have Sinned) off their forthcoming album Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa. The video was directed by Dani Jacobs who, besides working on video clips for freakin’ Phil Collins and Moby, directed CoF’s Nymphetamine video all those years ago.

If you can just ignore Dani’s terrible glitter corpse paint and blue lipstick -- or if necessary, avert your eyes entirely and just listen to the song -- I think you’ll find, as I have, that it’s really not as bad as some other metal media outlets would have you believe. Yes, it is all over the place and yes, it’s really too short of a song for that sort of wankery but CoF are trying something new here and like the good fanboy that I am, I’ll give it a shot. Sure, I have my reservations but I’ll have to hear the whole album and let it stew for a bit before I praise or condemn.

In short, my mind is nowhere near “made up” about the current state of CoF.

Is yours? What did you think of the video/song?

Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa is scheduled for release on November 1 on the band’s own AbraCadaver Records.

I love how they're a bit more experimenting nowadays, but I have to admit - since Thornography they have been turning for the worse. Damnation and A Day is my favourite album from the Cradle (amazing creativity and successful experimentation, plus a well executed concept), Midian following close behind. I hope the rest of Darkly Darkly Venus Aversa will turn out better ..

I think that the Nymphetamine period created one of the most entertaining albums of black metal history (and one of the greatest music videos to boot!), and I found every song on that album to be extremely top notch and catchy - also downright brutal in a Cattle Decapitation-hybrid-Punk sort of way. So when I saw this video today, *no coincidence it was amazingly directed by the guy who did Nymphetamine, this video will no doubt hit MTV with a storm*, I had a huge smile on my face. I love Dani's make-up, I think it sort of plays on the newfound popularity of the adrogynous rock star, and it downright looks amazing. But that doesn't even account for the explosive, extremely catchy sound, this song sounds like an almost exact hybrid of Nymphetamine and Thornography, two of my favorite outputs by them, and I've listened to this song over 20 times today. This is what metal and rock'n'roll is all about! Sadly, 3 or 4 samples from other songs on the album have surfaced, and they all sound like a very badly engineered version of Godspeed, which was a nice album, but fell very flat and boring in the long run. This song sounds nothing like Godspeed or the rest of Darkly, making me think it may be a b-side from the Nymphetamine or Thornography sessions. In any case, this song is an amazing one, it's so dang nasty and catchy!
