Earlier today I downloaded God’s Revolver’s album "Little Black Horse Where Are You Going With Your Dead Rider", put it on my player, threw on my oversized headphones and sat awaiting my fate. Almost instantly after hitting play I felt as though I was on the receiving end of a drunken punch in a non-descript bar somewhere in Arizona where time doesn’t change. Almost immediately after the punch, the drunkard picked me up and gave me a big ‘ole bear hug.

They probably don’t mind me saying this, and if anything will embrace it, but these five guys are truly a disgusting group of people.  In fact, by law, I’m required to include this disclaimer: Keep your girlfriends away, because these are the exact people your parents warned you about.

I really didn’t expect to like this record, but I kept catching myself tapping my foot. Rightfully so, the talent of this outfit is undeniable as is their ability to transcend genres seamlessly and as naturally as a hippy girl’s underarms. Bluesy, restless, heavy, sloppy at times but truly a work of art, God’s Revolver is an underground tour de force.

I have heard now more than once, a complaint about the vocals, but I think they do nothing more than fit perfectly in the band. Reid Rouse croons and howls on top of expertly executed and somewhat dizzying guitar work and masterfully minimalist (to the max) drums. God’s Revolver is worth an honest and objective listen. Long live the western epic!
