10 Great Black Metal Logos

Share

Presenting another installment of our world famous Top Ten List series; Ten Great Black Metal Logos. Notice I said “great” not “best”, “greatest”, “bestest”, ect. If you have any suggestions of logos or fonts we can use in future lists, leave us a comment! Let’s jump right in...

1. Bathory

When in doubt, go with a simple Old English font. Bathory did, that should be reason enough for you.

2. Immortal

The youngsters reading this might not recognize it, but this is actually Immortal’s original logo. The used it on the covers of their first three albums then introduced the one most are familiar with on their fifth record, 1999’s At The Heart Of Winter

*Interesting factoid: The only two Immortal records not to feature a logo on the cover are; 1997’s Blizzard Beasts and 2009’s All Shall Fall. Blizzard Beasts was the last record to feature Demonaz on guitar.

3. Trollskogen

I’ve talked about my love for this logo in the past so I’ll keep it short. I love this logo, love this band.

4. Filii Nigrantium Infernalium

Filii Nigrantium Infernalium describes themselves as a Portuguese Satanic, AnarchoBlackened Trash metal band. Yeah, it’s a mouthful. See their Myspace here: http://www.myspace.com/fninfernalium

5. Deathspell Omega

This is probably my favorite logo on the list, save Trollskogen’s. It’s a shame I can’t really get into their music.

6. Mayhem

There’s no telling how much shit I would catch if I didn’t include Mayhem on this and probably every subsequent logo/font list. So there you go, people. Mayhem.

7. Venom

Venom are most often credited as the originators of black metal. Regardless of if that is true or not, there is simply no disputing their influence on the early Norwegian black metal scene and  since this logo graced the cover of nearly every-damn-one of their albums, it’s more than earned their place on our list.

8. Darkthrone

Darkthrone’s logo is a classic. Though I had other logo’s vying for it’s spot, I couldn’t bring myself to leave it off the list.  This logo has appeared on everyone of the band’s releases since their first album, Soulside Journey.

*Interesting factoid: Darktrone’s logo was designed by Tomas Lindberg of At The Gates fame.

9. Carpathian Forest

This is another band I can’t really seem to get in to, but their logo is sweet. Interestingly, this logo has only appeared on three of CF’s albums, the first two and the most recent one. The three in-between featured a circular logo made up of the band’s initials.

10. Xasthur

Before disbanding this year, Xasthur, a one man Californian black metal project, managed to  release eight full-length albums, a crapload of EP’s and Splits and one fantastic logo.

*For the life of me I cannot pick out any of the letters in the logo except “R” right at the end.
